Well hello again! It has been quite awhile since I last blogged, and for that I apologize. I’ve been extremely busy with classes, work, coaching and playing volleyball, and co-student directing the recruitment and outreach aspect of The Chancellors Leadership Class with my lovely partner and friend, Marissa! So far we’ve had a VERY successful year in recruitment thus far, but we have one more event before application crunch time! Next Wednesday, January 25th, 2012 from 6:00pm-7:00pm in Cragmor Hall 008 we invite you to join us for an event we are hosting called “The Taste of CLC”. It is a wonderful opportunity to get a taste of what this AMAZING program has to offer! Since the application deadline for admittance into the program is February 1st…we figured this would be a great opportunity for you to see if the program might be something you are interested in! From 6:00-6:30 we will have time for you to meet and greet some of our current CLC scholars as well as our wonderful brand new director, Kristi Kremers! During this time you can ask more questions about the program as well as get an idea of what it is like to be in the program straight from the mouth of our scholars! Then at 6:30 Marissa and I will present a short PowerPoint to cover the requirements of the program to include GPA, volunteer hours, Wednesday night seminars, scholarship award and much more! After the presentation we will have a four person student panel composed of scholars from each year in the program who will tell you a little bit about themselves and allow for any questions you may have! At the conclusion of the Taste of CLC we invite you to join us for one of our Wednesday night seminars where Dr. Michael Hackman will be presenting on “Problem Solving and Decision Making for Leaders”!

I had my first day of class yesterday and it’s looking to be a very successful and promising semester! I’ll make sure to update my blog more often! Until next time…

I woke up this morning to one of my most favorite sounds, thunder!! It’s a cloudy, gloomy, and soon to be rainy Spring day here in the Springs…one of my favorite kinds of days! 🙂 It’s been pretty rainy here since about Saturday and it even snowed beautiful, big, wet flakes Saturday night. But, with the warmer days, the snow melted pretty quickly!

Enough about the weather, though….there are way more important issues to discuss, like the fact that school ends in just 17 days!!! This semester has flown by ridiculously fast; I think its because I have been so busy playing and coaching volleyball, working on completing my 70 hours of volunteer service for CLC, working, hiking the incline, running the Jack Quinn’s 5k, and of course studying! 😉 If you haven’t already heard about the monster of a hike called the Manitou Springs Incline, it’s a 1 mile climb that takes you up 2,800 rail road ties with a  2,000ft vertical  incline…hence the name….and it’s a 4 mile walk/run down a trail called Barr Trail. Now, there is a bail out point about halfway up the trail if you physically cannot continue on, but only the whimps bail out! 😉

Another activity that I mentioned above is the Jack Quinn’s 5k run, which is a 3.34 mile run that is held every Tuesday from 5pm until it gets dark…about 7:30 or 8pm. It is so much fun, thousands of people come out each week to participate and they offer $2.50 pints of beer for those 21 and up. The run starts at the Jack Quinn pub on Tejon street. Click on this link for more information about the running club! 🙂 http://www.jackquinnsrunners.com/index.php

Well, it’s time for me to get ready for my Anatomy and Physiology Lecture and after that, of course I’ll be doing the Jack Quinn’s run at about 5pm…after that I will probably come home and work on some charts for my A&P Lab tomorrow morning, then I have a volleyball game at 9pm and after that, my team usually goes out to a little Mexican restaurant off of Powers Blvd and S.Carefree called Jose Muldoons! Thats my plan for the rest of the day! 🙂 Until next time….

So after a rather chilly start to the week, I was back to wearing shorts and a t-shirt today when the temperatures SOARED to 60 degrees! It was a little windy, but hey, that’s Colorado Springs for you in the Winter/Spring time. Tomorrow is supposed to be even more gorgeous, with temperatures getting as high as 64 degrees! And lucky for me, I don’t have class on Fridays! Yippee!! 🙂 My friend and I are planning a day out in Downtown Colorado Springs tomorrow in lieu of the warmer weather. We’re going to start out the morning with a hearty brunch at a local diner called King’s Chef Diner, it was featured on The Food Network’s “Outrageous Food” for a gigantic dish called “The Thing”, which consists of four- to five-pounds of Texas toast, hash browns, eggs, green chili, cheese and meat!! I’ve never been to this diner before, so it will definitely be an adventure that I can’t wait to tell you all about after!! Once we’re stuffed to our gills with delicious greasy, home-cooked food, we’ll need to walk it off shopping up and down Tejon street Downtown! Poor Richard’s, a  local coffee shop/used bookstore/restaurant/toy store will surely be on our list of stores. 🙂 Along with many others including Tera Verde, Sparrowhawk and maybe a walk by Uncle Wilbur’s Fountain and Acacia Park!

We’ll probably round off the day with a stop at Starbucks for a cup o’ Joe before heading back home so I can get ready for work at Papa Murphy’s at 4pm. I’m leaving for Denver tomorrow night too! I coach a competitive club volleyball team (Colorado Springs Altitude) and my girls are playing in an annual tournament called Colorado Crossroads. It was my favorite tournament to play in when I played club and it’s still one of my favorites to attend as a coach! I’ll be in Denver until Monday, so I’ll be sure to update you on some of the fun activities we do while we’re there in case you’ve never been! Denver is always a fun place to go on weekends if you want a change of scenery for a few days! Chat at you soon!
